Update on my comment-

This is what I purchased:
"Acronis® True Image 11 Home
Add-on Tools Included!
$40 value! Acronis® Migrate Easy
Hard drive cloning — Upgrade to a new hard drive without the need to reinstall the operating system, applications or configure user settings.
Add new hard disk — Expand your PC's storage capability. "

And the result:
A new larger har drive running the Sony Vaio PCV-RX860
with all the same settings and info as contained on the old original hard drive.

Acronis software was very easy to use and very fast too.
Only took about 20 minutes from start to finish.
The "worrying about doing" was much longer than the "actual doing"
...lol
The only real problem was deciphering and figuring out the correct jumper setting on the original drive.

Acronis - great software!

Thanks for the great video!
I am about to clone a hard drive in a SONY Vaio PCV-RX860 desktop pc.
I am sensing a soon to occur hard drive failure.
After much internet research and consulting with a SONY tech online,
I discovered that the recovery cds will only work to recover the original hard drive. Apparently recovery info neccesary for the cds to work correctly is contained on the orignal hard drive.
The cds will not work on a different drive.
So after more internet research, I found the Acronis software web site.
I purchased the software and will clone the hard drive soon.
I then found your video, which I am extending my heartfelt thanks to you for making and posting it. I have never cloned a hard drive before, and even though I purchased the software was still very concerned about using it to perform the cloning.
Your video very cleary and concisely explains the entire process! Great job....THANKS!

Well, I guess Acronis software will save the day for me too.
Purchased it yesterday.
I wanted to install a new hard drive in a Sony Vaio PCV-RX860 and found out after much internet researching that Sony does indeed make it impossible to just install a replacement drive, necessary info for the correct use of the recovery cds (which I have for this model) is also installed on the original drive. The recovery cds will only work for that drive with the information on that drive.
Althought the SONY tech was quite eager to send me to a link for a SONY repair center where they can do it for me...For how much?
Although to his credit he was quite polite and helpful.
So after much more investigation on my own, I stumbled upon the Acronis software.
Cloning the hardrive sounds like the perfect solution.
I am just so happy that I discovered this SONY problem before the drive actually failed. And even more happy that I purchased the Acronis software!

Ready Boost is a JOKE!!! Its too Slow!!

Lets do the math......

1. Fact: Maximum data transfer rate on a memory stick 24-30mb/s MAX!!!

2. Fact: On most hard drives the data transfer rate is 80+mb/s

As you can see a hard drive is faster than a Memory Stick!!

I shutdown my compaq laptop about once a week, and my compaq presario desktop about once a month, or as updates require.

I never use hibernate, but I have my system go into standby, and my disks/monitor go off after 30 minutes (more agressive for my laptop, when not plugged in).

(I also cleanup/defrag almost every day)

Do you have a review of free data backup/drive imaging systems?

=================

No I don't.

Imaging is too important, I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee to Acronis for a solid program with support.
